Gilbert was born the fourth child of Samuel & Emma Lee Roberts on 12 JUN 1904 in Martinsburg and Clara was born 26 FEB 1906 in Woodstock, VA. They were married 17 Jan 1924 in Martinsburg, WVA.
In 1930, Gilbert, Clara and their first child, Vivian, were living with Clara's parents, George and Ida Reedy, in Arden District, Berkeley County, WVA.
By 1940, they were living at 314 E. Martin Street, Martinsburg with all three children.
In 1950 they lived with the two younger children at 515 Kentucky Ave., Martinsburg.
Like his father and several family member that followed, Gilbert worked at the hosiery mill. The mill was the first in the United States to be powered by electricity and opened in 1890. The plant in Martinsburg closed in 1976.
They had three children: Vivian Virginia, Allen William and Junior Lee
Gilbert died on 25 FEB 1992 and Clara died 26 APR 1989in Lynchburg, VA. They are both interned at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg, VA.
